Champaigne Punch?

Today I discovered the only recent news about Vernors is a recepie for champaigne punch from who I assume is the Food Editor for the Metro Times...

"A Tasty Beverage
Does the idea of holiday celebrating conjure up a glass punch bowl filled with a sweet-tasting, cold, fruity drink that lubricates your throat for caroling? Champagne punch is the answer. Start with a bottle of Champagne. Add a two-liter bottle of ginger ale (preferably Vernors). Then add a pint of vanilla ice cream (a quart if you like it creamier), some orange sherbet and a pint of fruit, such as raspberries, strawberries or orange slices. You get the idea. There are no rules other than to keep the kids out of the bowl."

The concept sounds pretty good, but I think I might stop at the vanilla ice cream. It reminds me of one of my favorite ways to drink Vernors - in the ever-popular float form. Yep a glass of Vernors and a couple of scoops of vanilla has been a staple in my diet for years.

I'll try out this recepie for New Year's Eve and let you all know how it came out.

I Love Vernors

I'm not even from Detroit, but part of my family is. When I was about twelve, I first mixed a half a glass of Vernors and a half a glass of Coca-Cola and was instantly hooked. To this day, there is nothing quite like Vernors and Coke for a delicious, refreshing drink.

Summer after summer lead my family back to Michigan for visits and mass consumption of Vernors. We used to ship some home to ourselves in California as it was not readily available during the 80's.

As I grew older, Vernors became easier and easier to find in my local grocery store. My shelves would ever be stocked with the amazing elixir and my heart would ever be happy.

Unfortunately, those days of ready availability are gone. More and more, I have to hunt down my favorite soft drink in stores all over SoCal. It's very disappointing and has lead to the creation of this blog.

I'm hoping that one day, SaveVernors will help begin something, a shared love for not just any ordinary soda, that will gather enough attention to make something I love easier for me to find.
